Butamax Advanced Biofuels

Butamax Advanced Biofuels

On March 31st, 2017 our facility was acquired by Butamax, a joint venture between BP and DuPont. Butamax is planning to retrofit our existing ethanol process to then produce bio-isobutanol at commercial scale. Nesika will continue to produce ethanol during and after adding the bio-isobutanol process. Butamax will offer the technology package for license, providing current ethanol producers an opportunity to diversify and grow their current business.

Bio-Isobutanol production at Nesika will:

  • Continue to support local grain markets
  • Establish Nesika as the "showcase" for Butamax's licensing business and training site for licensees
  • Provide Butamax with a full-scale facility to evaluate and continuously improve its technology
